Von Veylor-Schloss Family

1. Summary

Lorraine Sinclair von Veylor-Schloss is Edmund's twin sister. She shares his privileged, sheltered childhood and received the same broad preparation for the mission, including military training comparable to his. During the expedition she is Edmund's tactical companion and supports research, interpretation and practical preparations; at the end of the game she undergoes the final procedure after her father and before her brother, and dies.

2. Identity

  • Full name: Lorraine Sinclair von Veylor-Schloss.
  • Birth: born with her twin brother, Edmund, in New York on October 17, 2003. She turns eighteen on the same day as he does, October 17, 2021.
  • Family: daughter of Friedrich and Alice; twin sister of Edmund; raised by Hamish, the family butler.
  • Training: a combatant whose military training is comparable to Edmund's. She possesses extensive military training and is comparable to Edmund in combat competence, weapons handling, situational awareness, and defensive capability.
  • Languages: she shares Edmund's multilingual education and takes part naturally in the inheritance meeting, which is held in Spanish.

3. Personality

Lorraine is feminine, refined, and affectionate without being weak or inexperienced. Her femininity, refined upbringing, and affectionate relationship with Edmund do not imply weakness or military inexperience.

She shares much of Edmund's educational background, although her personality and conversational habits may differ from his. She is not intellectually naive; her unfamiliarity concerns ordinary social experience, not a lack of education or intelligence. The traits she shares with her brother are in See: Characters › Edmund.

She is aware of the family's traditions and participates naturally in the inheritance proceedings as an informed and supportive participant.

She uses her own tactical judgment. What that judgment lets her do in the field: See: Systems › Companions.

4. Background

Lorraine shares Edmund's whole childhood: the early years in New York, the move to Patagonia, the isolated but comfortable upbringing and the training supervised by Hamish. See: Characters › Edmund.

Lorraine is not simply an accompanying family member. She received the same broad preparation for the mission as Edmund: extensive intellectual, physical, and military preparation. She completed her own training before the eve of the twins' eighteenth birthday.

5. Role in the Story

  • She turns eighteen on the same day as Edmund and shares the discovery of the stasis laboratory and of the mission their father left them.
  • She supports research, interpretation, and practical preparations, usually from the support position alongside the butler.
  • She accompanies Edmund physically at selected points of the expedition, but is not a permanent on-site follower.
  • She notices changes in the butler's behavior as he is affected by forbidden knowledge.
  • The deteriorating Hamish eventually behaves incoherently and threatens her, which forces Edmund into a lethal confrontation with him.
  • She returns to the mansion with Edmund. If Edmund uses the Skull Helmet on their father, she decides independently whether to wear it herself; if she does, she dies. See: Campaign › Final Chapter.

5.1 Position in the Inheritance

Lorraine attends the inheritance meeting as an informed and supportive participant.

She does not dispute Edmund's position as the principal recipient of the designated control rights.

There is no inheritance rivalry between the siblings.

This arrangement reflects the traditional family structure established by Friedrich, with both siblings already familiar with its general principles.

Their relationship remains affectionate and cooperative.

5.2 Development in Chapter Two

Lorraine is not simply an accompanying family member.

She received the same broad preparation for the mission as Edmund.

She is aware of the family's traditions and participates naturally in the inheritance proceedings.

Her relationship with Edmund remains cooperative and affectionate.

She will accompany him on the mission and will later play an important role in the campaign.

5.3 Development in Chapter Three

Lorraine shares Edmund's unusually isolated upbringing.

She also received extensive intellectual, physical, and military preparation.

Her presence during the journey reinforces that the mission belongs to both siblings.

Although Edmund remains the playable character and retrospective narrator, Lorraine is an active participant in the expedition.

She is not simply accompanying her brother as a passive observer.

6. Relationships

…

6.1 Edmund

The twins' bond, the emotional foundation of the game, is described in See: Characters › Edmund.

In the field, Edmund trusts her capabilities and gives her professional, straightforward orders rather than treating her as someone incapable of defending herself. He communicates with her as a trusted, equally trained partner. Their roles differ in function, not because Lorraine is less competent than her brother.

6.2 Hamish

Hamish raised her with Edmund and is her father figure. She is the one who notices the changes in his behavior as forbidden knowledge affects him, and it is her that he finally threatens. See: Characters › Hamish.

6.3 Friedrich and Alice

She shares Edmund's limited but positive memories of their father, Friedrich, and never knew their mother, Alice. In Chapter One she gives Edmund the rediscovered portrait of Friedrich and Alice. See: Characters › Friedrich and See: Characters › Alice.

7. Gameplay Role

Lorraine is the tactical level of the expedition and its principal tactical companion. The player commands her but does not play her: she may accompany Edmund, guard a location, protect Hamish, or remain at an assigned position, and she can be given weapons. Some mandatory campaign objectives require her direct participation. See: Systems › Companions.

Her survival is a mandatory narrative condition: her death results in Game Over, and during the final extraction her death results in mission failure. Soldiers can surprise and capture her, which opens a time-limited rescue opportunity. See: Systems › Companions.

During the night camp of Chapter Three she is asleep while Hamish keeps the fire and asks Edmund to gather firewood. See: Campaign › 3. A Flight To Nowhere.

8. Open Questions

  • The possibility of briefly controlling Lorraine, or her optional brief playability, remains undecided.
  • The twins' detailed individual personalities are not yet finalized. See: Characters › Edmund.
