1. Summary

Underground Levels: 2

A3 manages essential environmental infrastructure.

Its systems are responsible for water distribution, waste-water treatment, atmospheric control, ventilation, filtration, and selected cooling functions.

3. Function and Contents

The separation of these systems from the main research installation reflects both engineering requirements and the need to isolate potentially hazardous operations.

3.1 Surface Facilities

A3 includes water-related infrastructure, pumping installations, service buildings, reservoirs, utility access points, and ventilation structures.

The complex is positioned according to practical terrain and water-supply requirements.

3.2 A3-L1 — Water Treatment & Distribution

This level houses large reservoirs, water-treatment equipment, industrial pumping systems, distribution infrastructure, and waste-water processing facilities.

The facility supplies water to the principal installation and supporting complexes.

3.3 A3-L2 — Atmospheric Control & Filtration

The lower level contains extensive ventilation machinery, industrial air-handling equipment, filtration systems, cooling infrastructure, and atmospheric-control equipment.

Different research sectors operate through separated environmental circuits.

This compartmentalization is particularly important for D3 and D5, where biological contamination presents a major operational hazard.
