1. Summary
The old aerodrome predates the concealed heliport.
In the game, the aerodrome is a substantial explorable location.
2. History
The old aerodrome was constructed to support the early phases of Project Schwarzwald, when surface transportation and conventional military logistics were the primary methods of access.
It historically supported the arrival of personnel, equipment, industrial supplies, and other materials required by the project.
As the installation became more secretive, the aerodrome lost its role as the normal arrival point for senior scientific personnel.
The concealed heliport and its direct connection to D2 provided a more discreet alternative.
German military aircraft and maintenance infrastructure survive as material evidence of Schwarzwald's original historical associations.
3. Function and Contents
The aerodrome includes a runway, service roads, hangars, storage buildings, maintenance structures, and security installations.
Its structures may contain aviation records, logistical documents, historical military equipment, abandoned vehicles, supplies, and evidence of the installation's early operations.
3.1 Hangars and Records Office
The old German aerodrome and hangars on the surface hold German military aircraft and maintenance infrastructure, and an old operations or records office.
There the player can recover historical aerial reconnaissance photographs, maps, and construction-era materials.
The side quest The Abandoned Aerodrome plays here. See: Campaign › 4. Project Schwarzwald
4. Architecture and Style
Parts of the aerodrome are deteriorated, with vegetation growing through pavement and around abandoned buildings.
