1. Summary
The Indigenous preparation is an ancient, difficult-to-produce psychoactive substance maintained in the ritual knowledge of the Indigenous community that kept the Skull Helmet. Consumed as a drink and combined with extraordinary mental discipline, it lets a person tolerate the helmet's ordeal and dangerous information far beyond ordinary limits, without true immunity. Schwarzwald could study it but never reproduce it.
2. Origin
The original preparation was not invented by Schwarzwald researchers. Its existence and use preceded the facility's scientific investigation.
An ancient preparation, maintained in Indigenous ritual knowledge and compared loosely to exceptionally powerful psychoactive preparations, enables a participant to tolerate the extreme psychological and physical ordeal of the Skull Helmet long enough to reach the required threshold.
According to Márcio Bravados, members of the community underwent lifelong mental and physical preparation beginning in childhood. Their practices included intense endurance training and the use of a difficult-to-produce psychoactive substance containing unusual indigenous ingredients. The substance, combined with extraordinary mental discipline, was believed to enable individuals to withstand the effects of the Skull Helmet.
2.1 A Psychoactive Substance
The tribe uses a specialized psychoactive preparation associated with religious endurance.
Its effects initially reminded Márcio of ayahuasca.
However, the substance used by the fictional tribe is chemically and pharmacologically distinct.
It must not be presented as conventional ayahuasca.
Nor should the effects of the Skull Helmet be attributed to ordinary known hallucinogens.
It produces an altered state that substantially changes the individual's experience of pain.
The preparation plays an important role in the community's long-term spiritual training.
2.2 Religious Knowledge
The preparation is not simply an ordinary medicinal drink.
Its production and use are embedded within specialized cultural and religious knowledge.
The community preserves this knowledge through oral traditions and established practices.
Not every member necessarily possesses the same understanding of its composition or preparation.
Its significance extends beyond its chemical ingredients.

Extreme mental discipline, combined with the unusual substance documented by Bravados, could delay certain manifestations of the Skull Helmet's effects without providing true immunity.
3.2 Transformed Tolerance
Unlike Despair Pills, the original preparation produces a substantial improvement in the ability to tolerate dangerous information.
It was not merely a conventional analgesic.
Its effects were more complex than suppressing pain or producing sedation.

According to the community's tradition, this process gradually develops the individual's capacity to endure exceptionally intense experiences.
The precise physiological and phenomenological mechanisms remain uncertain.
What is established within the fictional world is that the preparation has measurable and extraordinary effects on tolerance.
4. History and Custody
The preparation passed from the community's ritual into Schwarzwald's research through Bravados's journals and the facility's own investigations.
4.1 Schwarzwald's Discovery
Schwarzwald's scientists became aware of an indigenous preparation associated with an extraordinary ability to tolerate dangerous information. Researchers recognized that its properties could be extremely valuable for personnel engaged in memetic research.
Researchers discover that it can improve an individual's tolerance of certain anomalous experiences associated with the Skull Helmet and Information Hazard.
This becomes crucial to later attempts to understand and manage the consequences of exposure.
In 1998 the facility investigated the relationship between the ritual preparation documented by Bravados, the Skull Helmet, and profound alterations in consciousness.
4.2 The Samples
The scientists obtained a limited number of samples. These samples were exceptionally expensive. The research team did not possess complete knowledge of the preparation's ingredients, composition, or manufacturing process. Although they could study the available substance, they could not simply reproduce the original preparation.
Schwarzwald's attempt to reverse engineer it produced only an imperfect approximation, the Despair Pills.
The two are related but not identical. The original preparation remains especially important because its effects cannot be fully reproduced through the researchers' pharmaceutical substitutes.
4.3 Friedrich
Mental discipline and the ritual preparation documented by Bravados delayed Friedrich's deterioration without making him immune. This explains how he survived long enough to establish his private installation and preserve his body through stasis technology.
5. Role in the Game
When Edmund gains access to the original preparation, and the change it makes to his tolerance of dangerous information, are rules of the information hazard system.

6. Open Questions
- The exact recipe, formulation, effects and mechanism of the ritual preparation are not defined. No pharmaceutical specifics and no real-world pharmacological recipe may be invented for it.
