1. Summary
Schwarzwald's biological stasis technology was developed in D5. Friedrich, who had taken part in stasis research, reconstructed a functional but imperfect stasis station from his professional knowledge beneath the Patagonian estate, where he has lain in an oblivion-like state since about 2010.
2. Origin
Biological stasis was among the experimental programs investigated by D5's scientists. D5 is the origin of the stasis technology later obtained by the protagonists' father.

3. Nature and Properties
Stasis maintains an oblivion-like state, preventing conscious engagement with the dangerous information.
3.1 Stasis Chambers in D5
In D5, some experimental subjects remain preserved inside stasis chambers. They are described with the level.
3.2 The Stasis System Beneath the Mansion
Beneath the Patagonian estate, Friedrich built a technologically advanced laboratory containing a stasis system derived from classified technology developed at the Amazon facility. Its centre is a vertical transparent stasis tank in which the father is suspended upright, held by cables and connected to wires, tubes and life-support systems. The machinery around it is described with the laboratory.

3.3 Technical Independence
Because Friedrich had participated in classified stasis research, he understood the principles, components, and operational requirements of the technology.
He was capable of reconstructing a functional stasis station from his professional knowledge.
The privately constructed system was not identical to the equipment used at Schwarzwald.
It was imperfect.
However, it was sufficiently functional to maintain his body for an exceptionally long period.
3.4 The Limits of Stasis
Schwarzwald's stasis technology could preserve biological organisms for periods potentially extending across centuries.
However, researchers had never succeeded in reliably restoring a human subject to normal conscious life after stasis.
Biological preservation was possible.
Successful revival was not.
The body could remain in a maintained state while the brain failed to resume ordinary conscious function.
Friedrich knew this.
3.5 Active Stasis Compatibility
The Skull Helmet can activate while Friedrich remains inside his functioning stasis apparatus.
The system does not need to be switched off.
Friedrich does not need to regain ordinary consciousness.
When the Skull Helmet is placed on his head, its anomalous synchronization begins automatically.
The artifact's effect is compatible with his biologically maintained state.
Its precise interaction with a stasis-preserved nervous system is unknown.
This behavior is an established fact within the game's fictional mechanics, not proof of any particular theory of consciousness.
4. History and Custody
Friedrich was away from the facility when the 1999 disaster struck, and he never returned; he took no stasis equipment with him. See: Characters › Friedrich.
Around 2007 he bought an existing Victorian estate in Patagonia and built the concealed stasis laboratory beneath the butler's quarters. Around 2010, close to psychological collapse from what he knew, he entered stasis. The butler, Hamish, has been responsible for maintaining the hidden stasis system ever since.
Mental discipline and the ritual preparation documented by Bravados delayed Friedrich's deterioration long enough for him to establish his private installation and preserve his body through stasis technology.

5. Role in the Game
On the twins' eighteenth birthday, Hamish reveals the concealed laboratory and their father, alive in stasis. The father remains in stasis until Edmund decides his fate at the end of the game.
