1. Overview

Primary Location: Von Veylor-Schloss Family Estate, Patagonia, Argentina
Playable Character: Edmund Sinclair von Veylor-Schloss
Secondary Principal Character: Lorraine Sinclair von Veylor-Schloss
Principal Supporting Character: Hamish, the family's longtime butler and guardian
Other Important Characters: Alejandro Valdés, Argentine legal representative; household staff; external contacts operating through the family's network
Starting Time: Morning of Edmund and Lorraine's eighteenth birthday, October 17, 2021
Strategic Preparation Window: 28 days
Gameplay Perspective: First-person
Narrative Perspective: Retrospective first-person narration by Edmund

1.1 Narrative Purpose

Chapter Two marks Edmund's transition from a protected aristocratic childhood into a position of genuine authority and responsibility.

On his eighteenth birthday, Edmund formally assumes control over the family fortune, discovers the purpose behind his unusual upbringing, learns of the secret connected to his father, and begins preparing for a dangerous mission involving a classified installation in Brazil.

The chapter establishes the relationship between wealth, power, secrecy, strategic decision-making, and individual responsibility.

Unlike Chapter One, which primarily introduces Edmund's domestic life, family relationships, and education, Chapter Two allows the player to exercise the extraordinary power that Edmund has inherited.

The player will discover that financial resources can influence institutions, individuals, security arrangements, intelligence networks, and the eventual conditions of the mission. However, even an enormous fortune cannot eliminate uncertainty, guarantee success, or make every available approach strategically viable.

1.2 Principal Gameplay Functions

Chapter Two introduces:

  • The formal inheritance and transfer of family assets.
  • The discovery of Friedrich's secret laboratory and the mission he left behind.
  • The memetic information hazard associated with Schwarzwald.
  • The family's dedicated operational budget.
  • The Strategic Preparation System.
  • Dynamic and probabilistic decision trees.
  • Indirect exercise of power through intermediaries.
  • Variable operation durations, delays, and outcomes.
  • Daily financial transfers and rare extraordinary financial events.
  • Permanent campaign consequences resulting from strategic decisions.
  • The selection of a final extraction plan.
  • Player-controlled advancement of time through rest.
  • The irreversible transition from the estate to the next stage of the campaign.

1.3 Chapter Design Philosophy

This chapter should not feel like a conventional sequence of dialogue scenes followed by a shopping interface.

It should function as a substantial narrative and strategic experience in which Edmund gradually assumes command of a complex operation.

The player is not expected to find one perfect sequence of decisions. Instead, the player must evaluate imperfect information, weigh possible outcomes, allocate available resources, and decide when sufficient preparation has been achieved.

The resulting state of the campaign will influence the player's eventual arrival at Schwarzwald.

The mansion remains explorable throughout the chapter, and selected unfinished Side Quests from Chapter One may remain available.

1.4 Important Character Development

Edmund begins the chapter as a protected, privileged young man and ends it in control of major family responsibilities, with little experience yet of exercising power; Lorraine, prepared as broadly as he is, accepts the succession and will accompany him. Hamish is revealed as servant, friend, mentor, administrator and strategic adviser, and Friedrich's earlier decisions shape everything the chapter contains.

1.5 Core Design Requirements

Chapter Two must preserve the following principles:

  1. Edmund's wealth is a genuine source of gameplay influence.
  2. The USD $2.3 billion family fortune is narrative context, not a directly managed player balance.
  3. The mission account begins at USD $25 million.
  4. Daily financial transfers range from USD $30,000 to USD $420,000.
  5. Eleven extraordinary financial events are available, with a maximum of two occurrences per campaign.
  6. The strategic preparation period lasts no more than 28 days.
  7. The player may advance time by sleeping for one to five days.
  8. Important developments may interrupt a longer rest.
  9. Strategic decisions are dynamic, probabilistic, and interdependent.
  10. Decisions may have permanent consequences for the later campaign.
  11. Edmund exercises power indirectly through Hamish and external intermediaries.
  12. No morality meter. See: Vision › 6. Purpose And Design Principles
  13. Mercenary forces cannot accompany the siblings into Schwarzwald.
  14. This restriction is explained through military realities and the memetic information hazard.
  15. The player may depart without undertaking optional financial operations.
  16. An extraction method must be selected before departure.
  17. The extraction choice is irreversible and remains available at the end of the expedition.
  18. The three extraction methods provide fundamentally different final gameplay challenges.
  19. Lorraine accompanies Edmund and her survival is required.
  20. Chapter Two ends when Edmund goes to bed after completing his preparations.

1.6 Central Narrative Theme

Chapter Two is about the exercise of power before the confrontation with the unknown.

Edmund discovers that the privileges of his upbringing were not merely luxuries. They were part of a deliberate preparation.

He inherits wealth, authority, knowledge, and responsibility.

For the first time, the player can use those resources to alter the circumstances of a dangerous mission.

But money cannot guarantee certainty, erase consequences, or eliminate what awaits inside Schwarzwald.

The chapter should leave the player with the impression that Edmund has prepared as thoroughly as possible — while still having no true understanding of just how much his life is about to change.

2. Opening

The Eighteenth Birthday

2.1 Chapter Introduction

The chapter begins immediately after Edmund goes to sleep at the conclusion of Chapter One.

A black screen displays:

CHAPTER TWO

Now I Am Finally a Man

The title fades away.

The first-person perspective returns to Edmund's bedroom the following morning.

The surroundings reflect the previous evening's activities. His packed luggage remains arranged near the door, and the wardrobe is still partially empty.

Daylight enters through the windows.

On a nearby table, a household employee has already placed a prepared breakfast.

This is an ordinary occurrence in Edmund's life. He is accustomed to household staff attending to his needs without requiring him to request every service.

Upon waking, Edmund may remark:

Edmund: "Well... this is the day. I'm finally eighteen."

2.2 Mandatory Interaction — Have Breakfast

The first mandatory objective is:

Have Breakfast

An interaction is available on the prepared breakfast:

Action: Have Breakfast

Until Edmund completes this interaction, he cannot leave the bedroom.

Activating the interaction begins a short Illustrated Narrative Sequence.

The sequence should be brief and focused on Edmund's emotional state rather than the physical details of eating.

The retrospective narrator reflects on the significance of the morning.

Illustrative Narration:

"I had spent practically my entire life waiting for that morning."

"From a very young age, Lorraine and I had been told that our eighteenth birthday would mark the beginning of something important."

"And yet, when the day finally arrived, I still had almost no idea what awaited us."

"I remember feeling rather nervous. Not exactly frightened, but anxious. After all those years of preparation, I was finally about to discover what it had all been for."

"I ate my breakfast, wondering what Father had planned for us."

The narration ends.

Control returns to the bedroom.

The breakfast has been consumed. The dishes, cup, and utensils visibly reflect the completed activity.

This environmental continuity is mandatory: the room must not appear unchanged after the narrative sequence.

2.3 New Objective

Edmund reflects:

Edmund: "I suppose I should find Hamish."

The Main Quest objective updates:

Find Hamish

The bedroom door becomes available, and the player regains freedom to explore the mansion.

3. Main Quest

Mandatory Progression

3.1 MQ-01 — Find Hamish

Objective: Locate Hamish within the mansion.

The player can ask household employees where Hamish is.

The staff explain that he is in his office and that a visitor has arrived to meet with the family.

The player may continue exploring the estate before proceeding.

On entering the office, Edmund finds:

  • Hamish.
  • Lorraine.
  • An Argentine lawyer representing the family's legal interests.

The lawyer has arrived to formalize arrangements established by Friedrich many years earlier.

This encounter begins the inheritance sequence.

3.2 MQ-02 — The Inheritance

Objective: Attend the legal meeting and formally assume control of the family assets.

3.2.1 Setting

The meeting takes place in Hamish's office, not his private bedroom. See: Places › Mansion

Lorraine is already present when Edmund arrives.

The lawyer introduces himself as Alejandro Valdés, the family's Argentine legal representative.

3.2.2 Language

The entire legal meeting takes place in Spanish.

English subtitles are available to the player.

Edmund, Lorraine, and Hamish participate naturally in the conversation without drawing attention to their multilingual abilities.

The scene reinforces that the siblings received an exceptional education and are accustomed to operating across multiple languages.

This follows the linguistic characterization introduced in Chapter One, when Edmund reads Schopenhauer in German.

3.2.3 Family Wealth

The lawyer explains that the family's estimated total net worth is approximately:

USD $2,300,000,000

The composition of the fortune and how much of it is liquid. See: Factions › Von Veylor-Schloss Family

3.2.4 Privacy and Asset Administration

The lawyer also explains that Friedrich instructed the family's legal and financial representatives to maintain a high degree of privacy concerning the family's wealth.

How the patrimony is kept out of public view. See: Factions › Von Veylor-Schloss Family

The lawyer makes clear that the family's representatives have successfully maintained substantial discretion around the true size and structure of its fortune.

This is not presented as an exciting revelation to Lorraine or Hamish. It is a normal characteristic of the family's financial administration.

3.2.5 Hamish's Loyalty

Hamish's loyalty when authority over the estate passes to Edmund. See: Characters › Hamish

3.2.6 Lorraine's Position

Lorraine attends the meeting as an informed and supportive participant.

Her stance on the inheritance and her relationship with Edmund. See: Characters › Lorraine

3.2.7 Illustrative Dialogue

Alejandro Valdés: "Buenos días, señor Sinclair. Y ante todo, feliz cumpleaños."

Edmund: "Muchas gracias."

Edmund: "Dos mil trescientos millones..."

The lawyer presents the documents.

Hamish signs the required transfer instruments.

Edmund signs the necessary papers.

The lawyer confirms that the designated transfer of control has been formally completed.

3.2.8 Gameplay Purpose

This sequence establishes:

  1. Edmund's legal adulthood.
  2. His authority over the designated family assets.
  3. The exceptional scale of the family's wealth.
  4. The family's deliberate financial privacy.
  5. Hamish's loyalty.
  6. Lorraine's acceptance of the family succession.
  7. Edmund's fluency in Spanish.

The meeting should remain narratively substantial without becoming a bureaucratic document-signing simulation.

3.3 MQ-03 — Friedrich's True Legacy

Objective: Learn that the inheritance is not the reason Edmund and Lorraine were trained.

After the lawyer leaves, Edmund initially wonders whether the transfer of the fortune was the event for which he had been prepared since childhood.

He questions Hamish directly.

Edmund: "Wait... is that it? All those years of training, all those lessons, everything Father put us through... just so I could inherit his fortune?"

Hamish: "No, Edmund. The inheritance was never the purpose of your preparation. It was one of the means by which your father intended you to accomplish it."

Hamish explains that Friedrich entrusted him with a secret that could not be fully disclosed until the siblings reached adulthood.

Everything Hamish previously revealed was limited by Friedrich's express instructions.

Their upbringing and training served a purpose beyond the inheritance. See: Characters › Edmund

Hamish explains that the time has come to reveal its nature.

He directs the siblings toward Friedrich's secret laboratory.

3.4 MQ-04 — The Secret Laboratory

Objective: Follow Hamish into Friedrich's concealed laboratory and discover the central mission.

See: Places › Laboratory

3.4.1 Narrative Function

This is one of the most important story sequences in the chapter.

The laboratory reveals that Friedrich's work, his secrecy, his wealth, and the upbringing of his children were connected to a mission of extraordinary significance.

The player discovers that the destination of the mission is a classified installation associated with Project Schwarzwald in Brazil.

The laboratory also establishes the existence of an extremely dangerous memetic information hazard.

By the conclusion of this sequence, Edmund and Lorraine know that the threat involves information and cognition, not merely conventional biological, military, or physical dangers.

They may not yet understand the complete nature, mechanisms, or consequences of the hazard.

3.4.2 Friedrich's Instructions

Friedrich's message and its instructions. See: In-World Documents › Friedrich's Letter

What the sequence leaves undefined. See: Canon › Open Questions

3.4.3 Hamish's Role

Hamish accompanies Edmund and Lorraine.

His role in the laboratory. See: Characters › Hamish

3.4.4 Information Hazard

The laboratory explicitly introduces the information hazard before the strategic preparation phase begins.

This chronology is important.

Later discussions concerning mercenaries, external personnel, and the risks of bringing additional people into Schwarzwald must assume that Edmund and Lorraine already understand the existence of a memetic threat.

The player should not be required to discover the basic concept for the first time during those later conversations.

See: Phenomena › Information Hazard

3.4.5 Transition

After the laboratory sequence, Edmund, Lorraine, and Hamish return to the office.

Hamish explains that the family fortune was intended to help finance the mission.

This begins the strategic preparation phase.

3.5 MQ-05 — Mission Financing

Objective: Receive access to the dedicated mission budget and understand the financial preparation system.

3.5.1 Initial Mission Budget

Hamish explains that, over the years, he arranged for a portion of the family fortune to be made available for the undertaking.

These funds were prepared through controlled asset liquidation, accumulated financial resources, and other arrangements designed to avoid significant disruption to the family's principal investments and corporate interests.

The initial available amount is:

USD $25,000,000

This money is held in a dedicated operational account.

The family's estimated USD $2.3 billion patrimony is not simulated as a playable resource.

Only the operational mission account is managed by the player.

3.5.2 The Family Office

How the family office feeds the mission account. See: Factions › Von Veylor-Schloss Family

3.5.3 Illustrative Dialogue

Hamish: "Your father understood that this undertaking might require considerable financial resources."

Edmund: "How considerable?"

Hamish: "I've made arrangements over the years to ensure that a portion of the family fortune would remain available without disturbing our principal investments."

Edmund: "And how much have you managed to secure?"

Hamish: "Twenty-five million dollars, Edmund. Available immediately."

Edmund: "Twenty-five million..."

Hamish: "That is only the initial allocation. Our financial offices will continue transferring additional resources as they become available."

Edmund: "And the rest of the family fortune?"

Hamish: "Remains under its existing management arrangements. There is no reason to jeopardize the estate unnecessarily."

This conversation introduces the operational budget and establishes Hamish's competence as an administrator.

3.6 MQ-06 — The Preparation Window

Objective: Understand the departure deadline and gain access to the Strategic Preparation System.

Hamish explains that a contact connected to the arrangements for reaching Brazil has telephoned him.

The contact has secured a limited opportunity associated with the upcoming journey and initial access arrangements.

The siblings must board their flight to Brazil within a restricted period.

The preparation window is 28 days.

The deadline concerns departure by aircraft, not arrival at Schwarzwald itself.

The player may depart earlier.

The 28-day deadline is independent of the mission's financial resources.

Hamish did not establish the deadline because of budget limitations. It originates from the arrangements made by his contact.

Illustrative Dialogue:

Hamish: "I received a telephone call from our contact in Brazil. He's managed to make the necessary arrangements, but there is a time constraint."

Edmund: "What kind of constraint?"

Hamish: "Twenty-eight days. We must board our flight to Brazil within that window."

Edmund: "And what are we supposed to do in the meantime?"

Hamish: "Prepare, Edmund. Your father left you the means to influence considerably more than you might imagine."

Once this conversation ends, the office becomes the temporary strategic headquarters for the remainder of the chapter.

3.7 MQ-07 — Strategic Preparation

Objective: Use the available preparation period as desired, then declare readiness to proceed.

This is the central interactive component of Chapter Two.

The player is given access to a strategic decision-making system in which financial resources, time, intelligence, contacts, risk, and uncertain outcomes interact.

The player may:

  • Authorize operations through Hamish.
  • Explore intelligence opportunities.
  • Pursue unofficial arrangements with influential individuals.
  • Acquire information concerning Schwarzwald and its surroundings.
  • Arrange logistical advantages.
  • Attempt to influence the circumstances of future military encounters.
  • Investigate the results of previous operations.
  • React to unexpected developments.
  • Cancel, modify, or continue initiatives when circumstances permit.
  • Advance time to receive updates.
  • Depart without undertaking additional operations.

Participation in optional strategic operations is not mandatory.

The player may choose to use none of the available opportunities and proceed with the mission without the advantages they might have provided.

The consequences of doing so must be reflected in the campaign, but the game must remain completable.

3.7.1 Strategic Preparation System

The operations of MQ-07 run on a dedicated simulation of dynamic, probabilistic and interdependent decision trees, with variable durations, dynamic events and qualitative assessments from Hamish instead of exact probabilities. Edmund advances the preparation by sleeping one to five days at a time, and an important development may wake him before the chosen rest ends.

See: Systems › Strategic Preparation

3.7.2 Mission Account & Financial Simulation

Every operation is paid from the mission account, which starts at USD $25,000,000 and receives a daily transfer of USD $30,000–$420,000 from the family office. At most two of the eleven extraordinary financial events may occur in one campaign, each with its own scripted dialogue between Edmund and Hamish.

See: Systems › Strategic Preparation

3.7.3 Indirect Exercise of Power

Edmund authorizes operations as a strategic decision-maker while Hamish and external intermediaries carry them out away from the mansion, and his choices have concrete consequences rather than Good or Evil points. The illustrative branch is the retired Brazilian general who refuses an offer, after which Hamish lists severe measures among the options Edmund may authorize.

See: Systems › Strategic Preparation

3.7.4 Military Limitations & The Mercenary Question

In an optional conversation Edmund may propose hiring about fifty mercenaries, and Hamish rejects the idea because of the overwhelming military power of Brazil and the United States and because of the memetic information hazard. No private army can accompany the siblings into Schwarzwald, although external personnel may still carry out narrow tasks outside the facility during the preparation.

See: Systems › Strategic Preparation

3.7.5 Strategic Outcomes & Persistent Campaign Conditions

The preparation sets no fixed difficulty: it leaves persistent campaign variables, among them Brazilian Military Alert, United States Military Involvement, Surveillance Level, Access Privileges, Prepositioned Supplies, Intelligence Acquired and Operational Exposure, which shape the conditions Edmund later meets in Brazil. Once he leaves Patagonia, the strategic state is carried forward and cannot be revised.

See: Systems › Strategic Preparation

3.8 Mandatory Final Decision — Extraction Plan

…

3.8.1 Purpose

At the conclusion of strategic preparation, Hamish reminds Edmund that entering Schwarzwald is only part of the mission.

The siblings must also have a means of leaving the region after achieving their objective.

This becomes the final mandatory strategic decision of Chapter Two.

3.8.2 Illustrative Dialogue

Hamish: "I believe we've covered nearly everything, Edmund. But there is one final matter we must discuss."

Edmund: "What is it?"

Hamish: "Our way out."

Edmund: "Out of Schwarzwald?"

Hamish: "Precisely. Getting you inside is only half the problem. Once you've accomplished your objective, we shall need a reliable means of bringing you and Lorraine home."

Edmund: "Have you considered any possibilities?"

Hamish: "Three, in fact. Each offers certain advantages, but each presents difficulties of its own."

3.8.3 Funding Guarantee

The extraction plan is mandatory.

If sufficient funds remain in the mission account, its financial costs are covered from that balance.

If the player has exhausted the mission budget, Hamish can arrange additional resources specifically to guarantee the selected extraction plan.

These resources require Edmund's authorization but are not intended to become a general replenishment of the strategic budget.

The player cannot lose access to extraction because of insufficient funds.

3.8.4 Permanent Selection

Edmund must select one of three extraction methods.

The decision is irreversible.

The game must clearly communicate that the chosen plan will determine the final extraction route later in the campaign.

The selected method remains valid regardless of subsequent events.

The player cannot return to the mansion after departure to select another option.

3.9 Extraction Option A — Civilian Helicopter

…

3.9.1 Contact Background

The pilot's background and how the family reaches him. See: Characters › The Helicopter Pilot

3.9.2 Narrative Significance

The agreement demonstrates the family's willingness and ability to interact with individuals outside respectable legal and social institutions when those individuals possess useful capabilities.

Edmund may question the reliability of such a person.

Hamish explains that individuals with very different backgrounds can nevertheless enter into arrangements when their interests align.

3.9.3 Final Campaign Consequence

The helicopter is the fastest extraction method once reached.

However, its approach triggers a significant military security response.

The aircraft is detected as an unauthorized presence in the region.

Military forces increase their readiness and move to investigate or intercept it.

Edmund and Lorraine must reach the helicopter within approximately ten minutes.

The route involves intense military opposition, heightened alerts, and significant combat pressure.

The pilot becomes increasingly agitated as the situation deteriorates.

Illustrative Pilot Dialogue:

"This is the fucking army! What the hell have you gotten me into?"

"We need to go! NOW!"

"I'm not getting paid enough for this!"

3.9.4 Principal Trade-Off

Fast extraction, unavoidable military alert, intense combat, and a strict time limit.

3.10 Extraction Option B — Brazilian Military Truck

…

3.10.1 Contact Background

The arrangement involves a Brazilian Army captain experiencing serious personal financial difficulties.

His debt and the agreement the family negotiates with him. See: Characters › The Army Captain

3.10.2 Narrative Significance

This option demonstrates financial influence exercised through the vulnerability of an individual within an institution.

How the captain is portrayed. See: Characters › The Army Captain

3.10.3 Final Campaign Consequence

Later in the campaign, Brazilian military forces dispatch a substantial motorized contingent to investigate reports of unusual creatures or animal activity in the forest.

The soldiers do not fully understand the origin of these reports.

The extraction truck travels as part of the military column.

Its driver remains behind, ostensibly because of a mechanical problem involving a tire.

The rest of the column proceeds or occupies positions along the road.

Edmund and Lorraine must reach the truck.

The route passes through an area containing substantial military forces, including infantry, transport vehicles, and operational armored vehicles.

Two active tanks may be present.

The player is not expected to defeat these vehicles in direct combat.

3.10.4 Undetected Approach

If Edmund and Lorraine avoid detection, the route emphasizes stealth.

There is no extraction timer while their presence remains unknown.

The challenge is navigating a dangerous military environment without attracting attention.

3.10.5 Compromised Approach

If the military identifies the siblings, an alert is triggered.

The truck driver warns Edmund that the operation's cover cannot be maintained indefinitely.

A ten-minute countdown begins.

Edmund and Lorraine must reach the truck before the driver can no longer justify remaining behind the military column.

Combat, military pursuit, and heavy weapon threats make this significantly more difficult.

Failure to reach the vehicle before the deadline results in mission failure.

3.10.6 Principal Trade-Off

Potentially discreet extraction through overwhelming military strength, with a severe ten-minute escape timer if detected.

3.11 Extraction Option C — Civilian River Yacht

…

3.11.1 Contact Background

The owner of the river yacht is a civilian with a strong personal interest in unidentified flying objects and unexplained aerial phenomena.

His background and motives. See: Characters › The River Yacht Owner

3.11.2 Required Exchange

The yacht owner agrees to arrange extraction in exchange for documentary evidence concerning unidentified aerial phenomena.

He requests photographs, records, reports, or other relevant materials that Edmund may find during the Schwarzwald mission.

The player must obtain the necessary documents during the campaign.

If this extraction option is selected, retrieving the required evidence becomes a mandatory objective.

3.11.3 Financial Cost

This option does not require payment from the mission account.

Its cost is expressed through additional gameplay obligations and the difficulty of reaching the extraction location.

3.11.4 Final Campaign Consequence

At the end of the Schwarzwald expedition, Edmund and Lorraine must reach a river where the yacht will be waiting.

The route requires crossing a dangerous section of the Amazon rainforest.

The area contains numerous hostile creatures.

The primary threats are monsters and environmental exposure rather than organized military forces.

The journey to the yacht is intended to be a difficult survival-horror encounter.

3.11.5 Principal Trade-Off

No financial payment, mandatory UFO-document retrieval, and a dangerous forest crossing dominated by hostile creatures.

3.12 Extraction Choice — Long-Term Gameplay Contract

The three extraction options are established in Chapter Two but executed much later in the campaign.

Each is guaranteed to remain available in the final extraction sequence.

The selected plan determines the route Edmund and Lorraine must follow after obtaining the Skull Helmet.

The extraction chapter does not conclude when the characters reach a general extraction area.

It concludes when both Edmund and Lorraine successfully board the selected vehicle.

Lorraine accompanies Edmund during the escape.

Her survival is mandatory; her death results in mission failure.

The three options remain distinct:

Extraction MethodPrimary Final ChallengeDefining Constraint
Civilian HelicopterMilitary combat and rapid escapeUnavoidable 10-minute deadline
Brazilian Military TruckStealth through a heavily armed military presence10-minute deadline only if detected
Civilian River YachtMonster-infested forest crossingRequired UFO evidence and dangerous terrain

3.12.1 Post-Boarding Narrative

After the siblings board the chosen vehicle, a short first-person in-world departure scene follows.

The vehicle begins moving.

For approximately fifty seconds, Edmund looks back at the surrounding environment and reflects on the experience.

The core reflective narration remains substantially the same across all three routes.

The environment and vehicle movement differ.

For the helicopter, Edmund watches the rainforest recede below as the aircraft climbs away.

For the military truck, Edmund and Lorraine ride in the front passenger area while the vehicle departs along the road.

For the yacht, Edmund sits aboard and observes the river and surrounding forest as the vessel moves away.

The sequence then fades to black.

An Illustrated Narrative Sequence recounts the broader return journey to Patagonia and Edmund's reflections on the events of the campaign, including the death of Hamish and its impact on both siblings.

This sequence belongs to the later extraction chapter, not to Chapter Two.

It is documented here only because the extraction choice made during Chapter Two determines which departure sequence will be used.

4. Side Quests

Optional & Non-Exhaustive

4.1 General Rule

Side Quests in Chapter Two are optional.

4.2 SQ-01 — Unfinished Family Affairs

Selected optional activities from Chapter One remain accessible, provided they remain narratively appropriate.

These may include unfinished exploration, family conversations, and certain interactions with household employees.

4.3 SQ-02 — The Family Archives

Optional exploration of family correspondence, records, photographs, and documents that expand the player's understanding of Friedrich, Alice, Hamish, and the family's history.

4.4 SQ-03 — A Conversation with Lorraine

Optional conversations during the preparation period allow the player to deepen the relationship between the siblings.

These conversations may reflect the significance of their eighteenth birthday, their unusual upbringing, and their differing reactions to the mission.

4.5 SQ-04 — The Burden of Wealth

Optional financial or historical discoveries concerning the family fortune, its investments, and the institutions involved in maintaining its privacy.

This content reinforces the difference between the family's public image and its actual economic influence.

4.6 SQ-05 — Optional Strategic Opportunities

Additional operations and discoveries presented through the Strategic Preparation System may function as Side Quests or smaller strategic objectives.

Their exact availability is determined dynamically.

5. Key Narrative Sequences

Narrative Presentation & Time Progression

5.1 First-Person Gameplay

Ordinary exploration, conversations, environmental interaction, and movement within the mansion remain in first-person perspective.

5.2 Illustrated Narrative Sequence — Breakfast

A brief retrospective sequence establishes Edmund's emotional state on the morning of his eighteenth birthday.

5.3 Strategic Time Progression

Time advances through player-initiated rest and relevant narrative activities.

The player may advance one to five days at a time, subject to possible interruptions.

The passage of time is not represented by an artificially accelerated day-night cycle.

5.4 Environmental Continuity

The mansion should reflect relevant changes caused by time and completed activities.

Employees may move through different routines.

Objects used during mandatory sequences should visibly change.

The office and relevant documents should reflect the progression of strategic preparation.

5.5 Chapter Transition

The chapter ends when Edmund completes the final mandatory strategic preparations and subsequently goes to sleep.

A black-screen chapter transition introduces Chapter Three.

6. World-State Changes

By the conclusion of Chapter Two, the campaign must preserve the following information:

Family & Narrative State

  • Edmund and Lorraine have reached eighteen years of age.
  • Edmund has assumed the designated control of the family assets.
  • The family fortune is established at approximately USD $2.3 billion.
  • Edmund and Lorraine have discovered the mission left by Friedrich.
  • The laboratory has explained the existence of the memetic information hazard.

Strategic State

  • The mission account was initialized at USD $25 million.
  • Daily financial transfers and eligible extraordinary events were processed.
  • Strategic operations were resolved or advanced according to the simulation.
  • Information obtained during preparation is recorded.
  • Military suspicion and readiness variables are recorded.
  • Logistical advantages and disadvantages are recorded.
  • Relevant decisions and consequences are preserved.

Extraction State

  • One extraction route has been selected.
  • The selection is permanent.
  • Required extraction funding has been arranged.
  • Any route-specific future obligations have been registered.

Campaign Progression

  • The strategic preparation phase is closed.
  • The estate is no longer available as an active planning headquarters after departure.
  • The state required for subsequent chapters is finalized.

7. Chapter Ending

The Last Night of Preparation

7.1 Completion Requirements

The player may conclude the strategic preparation phase before the 28-day deadline.

Optional operations do not need to be exhausted.

However, the final extraction decision is mandatory.

Once the selected extraction plan is confirmed, the player remains free to explore the mansion and participate in any remaining eligible optional activities.

The final Main Quest objective becomes:

Go to Bed

7.2 Final Interaction

Edmund returns to his bedroom.

The room remains recognizable from Chapters One and Two.

His luggage is ready, and the mansion continues its ordinary routine.

The player interacts with the bed to end the chapter.

7.3 Transition

Edmund goes to sleep.

The screen fades to black.

The strategic preparation period ends, and the campaign preserves the consequences of the player's decisions.

The next chapter begins:

CHAPTER THREE

A Flight to Nowhere

Chapter Three covers the immediate preparations for departure, the journey toward the airport, and the next stage of Edmund and Lorraine's mission.

The exact opening sequence and subsequent progression will be defined separately.

8. Open Questions

What this chapter leaves undefined. See: Canon › Open Questions
