The Army Captain

1. Summary

2. Identity

• Name: unnamed.
• Rank: a captain of the Brazilian Army.

3. Personality

The captain is not portrayed as a random villain or an inherently disloyal man. His personal circumstances make him willing to accept an arrangement that he might otherwise have refused.

4. Background

He is experiencing serious personal financial difficulties. The family's intermediaries discover that he is burdened by debt and requires a substantial amount of money. An agreement is negotiated for approximately BRL R$1,200,000, roughly USD $320,000. The payment allows him to resolve his financial difficulties. In return, he arranges for a legitimate military truck to be available during the final extraction.

5. Role in the Story

If Edmund chooses this option, the truck travels in a military column sent to investigate reports of creatures in the forest, and its driver stays behind, ostensibly because of a tire problem, for the siblings to reach. See: Campaign › 2. Now I Am Finally A Man.
