1. Summary
Underground Levels: 2
A2 provides electrical generation, backup power, and industrial electrical distribution for the complex.
2. History
A2 began as a conventional power installation and was progressively modernized as the facility's energy requirements increased.
3. Function and Contents
In Chapter Five, Edmund restores the emergency supply of the D2–D3 elevator here. See: Campaign › 5. Mystery Base
3.1 Surface Facilities
The surface includes industrial utility buildings, generator exhaust infrastructure, maintenance workshops, transformer installations, fuel-handling facilities, and guarded service areas.
The installation has a distinctly industrial appearance.
3.2 A2-L1 — Power Generation
This level houses large generator rooms, industrial engines, fuel distribution systems, and auxiliary electrical machinery.
Older diesel generators coexist with equipment installed during later modernization programs.
Some systems may remain operational as emergency infrastructure.
3.3 A2-L2 — Electrical Distribution & Control
The second underground level contains high-capacity electrical distribution infrastructure, control panels, switching equipment, industrial battery systems, and power-management facilities.
3.4 Auxiliary Power Facility
The A2 installation contains industrial electrical equipment, distribution infrastructure, and emergency power systems associated with Schwarzwald.
The facility includes substantial diesel storage capacity, originally intended to support auxiliary operations for extended periods.
Its physical environment may include:
- Large industrial diesel storage tanks.
- Fuel distribution lines and connection equipment.
- An industrial diesel generator.
- Electrical switchgear and distribution assemblies.
- Maintenance offices.
- Technical diagrams and equipment documentation.
- A secured mechanical interlock assembly.
- Service corridors and machinery rooms.
3.5 Engineering Blueprint
The appropriate technical blueprint identifies the relationship between the generator, the distribution equipment, and the D2–D3 elevator.
The diagram identifies a particular emergency power line.
A yellow identification marking may help the player follow the relevant electrical conduit or cable through the technical areas of the installation.
The marked line leads to a secured mechanical interlock assembly.
This system was deliberately isolated during the evacuation.
3.6 Emergency Diesel Generator
A2 contains substantial fuel reserves connected to the emergency power infrastructure.
The generator's fuel system is fed from the appropriate industrial fuel supply connection by a designated hose or fuel line, which must be connected before the generator can run. When it runs, the restored emergency electrical circuit supplies the D2–D3 elevator.
What this restoration leaves without power is set out in Chapter Five. See: Campaign › 5. Mystery Base

5. Security and Access
…
5.1 Emergency Power Interlock
The interlock that protects the emergency electrical connection is described with the device. See: Artifacts and Technology › A2 Emergency Generator And Interlock
The mechanism was designed to discourage unauthorized restoration of the emergency elevator.
Its authorization rules are described with the chapter. See: Campaign › 5. Mystery Base

6.1 Electrical Network
The complex interfaces with the larger electrical network of Project Schwarzwald, including the experimental fusion reactor in its protected complex beside D3. A2 distributes its power but holds no reactor of its own. Schwarzwald has three energy systems: the original conventional power, which serves the older industrial infrastructure and the upper levels; the fusion reactor, which powered the deeper installation; and the experimental battery system, an energy-storage infrastructure dedicated to security, maintenance and monitoring. During the 1999 evacuation the reactor was shut down, because leaving a nuclear reactor running unattended was too dangerous. The systems that had to stay active, robotic maintenance and security, including surveillance, alarms and biological containment, have run since then on the battery system, which also powers the automated maintenance that keeps the reactor preserved. What the reactor powers in the deeper levels is described with the reactor.
6.2 Technical Galleries
A2 does not require a conventional passenger railway.
Its principal connections to the main installation consist of secured technical galleries carrying electrical cables, utility equipment, and maintenance access routes.
