1. Summary
Schwarzwald's autonomous maintenance robots were developed in D4 and built in a standardized series used throughout the deeper installation. Running on the experimental battery system, they have kept D4, D5 and D6 remarkably well preserved since the 1999 catastrophe.
2. Origin
D4's breakthroughs in hybrid computing, neural networks and Analog Brains eventually enabled the development of autonomous maintenance robots, security machines, and heavily armored robotic soldiers.

3. Nature and Properties
The autonomous robots of D5 are manufactured in the same standardized series used throughout D4. They patrol corridors and maintain the facility's infrastructure in greater numbers. They run on the base's experimental battery system.
The hostile security machines and robotic soldiers belong to the enemies.

4. History and Custody
After the 1999 catastrophe, D4's automated maintenance systems continued preserving much of its infrastructure; D4 remains remarkably well preserved due to continuous robotic maintenance. In D5 robotic maintenance has run since the shutdown, long after the personnel evacuation. In D6, the self-regenerative surfaces, combined with automated maintenance robots and the battery system, preserve the environment in an almost pristine condition.
The upper levels have no such robots. D1 receives only occasional maintenance from the remaining security patrols; no robotic maintenance systems operate on D2; and D3 receives no automated robotic maintenance, although automated systems preserve the fusion reactor beside it.
5. Role in the Game
Edmund finds D4, D5 and D6 clean and well preserved after more than two decades of abandonment. Amanda can explain the autonomous machines operating throughout the complex.
